Building Insanely Great Products is dedicated to one goal to help you learn how you can enhance the chances of product success and reduce product failure. Steve Jobs coined the term "building insanely great products" and this book, with many real-life examples, tells the story of what he meant by that phrase and how every organization can build insanely great products and services. Building Insanely Great Products covers the six keys to success, how to do market research, the importance of customer loyalty, innovation and design, using personas for development and not just marketing, determining the product's value proposition, the correct way to prioritize product features, market sizing that works, market segmentation, product positioning, distribution strategy, product lifecycle framework and process, and the customer journey and digital transformation. As Steve Johnson, the grandfather of product management training says "We've learned that companies often don't know why they succeed and why they fail. Many rely on luck; too many rely on 'HIPPO' - the highest paid person's opinion. And if you don't know why you succeed, you won't know how to succeed again."

In Building Insanely Great Products, author David Fradin combines personal experiences, industry history, and powerful tools and techniques for a broad tour of product management activities. Fradin using his SPICES metaphor—Strategy, Process, Information, Customers, Employees, and Systems & tools—to touch on the most important aspects of product management. He writes, "Building insanely great products is not about being a visionary. It is about understanding exactly what people do."
Fradin touches on the most important tools and techniques for product managers, such as personas and positioning. He also recommends my preferred methods for market research: observe, interview, then survey.
New product managers will benefit from the plethora of examples while more experienced product managers will find helpful reminders of techniques they may have forgotten.
I wrote the foreword to the book and I’m pleased to be quoted in the text as well.

Building Insanely Great Products Some Products Fail Many Succeed This Is Their Story (Audible Audio Edition) David Fradin Spice Catalyst Media Books Reviews
Very interesting read - not only does David provide very helpful information on creating great products, he also provides a lot of Silicon Valley history (especially regarding Apple and Steve Jobs) from an insider's view. Would make a great Christmas present!
David Fradin is one of the true product manager gurus out there. He was one of the very first people to demonstrate the importance of customer development and this was way before people like Steve Blank or Eric Ries began talking about it.
David was largely responsible for a number of great successes at both Apple and HP which you will discover in his book. His book is not only a great checklist and toolkit of must haves for any product manager but also serves as a unique and engaging account of what product management was like at some of the world's biggest companies back in their hey days.
If you want to know the steps to truly launching a successful product and not merely a bunch of buzzwords, then this book should be number one on your list.
The chapters are really straight forward and you'll have a great reference book to refer to again in the future during all future product management activities.
I can only highly recommend this book!!
This is a broad and deep survey of the techniques behind the craft of product management, with lots of stories to illustrate what works, and what doesn't. I had the pleasure of meeting David at one of his product camp seminars, and enjoyed listening to him tap into his rich vein of experience at many of the early leaders in building great products. David is very good at synthesizing ideas from many sources. I was pleased to see that even some of my comments made their way into David's book.
David's deep knowledge of product management combined with his unique perspective on Apple's history of successes but also failures, makes this a very interesting reading. There are a lot of good lessons that could be drawn and many unique insights that are impeccably highlighted.
Any product manager, especially the ones new to the field of product management can easily relate and understand the SPICES concept, which are fundamental blocks for building great product offerings in any field.
A great read for aspiring product managers looking to make a greater impact.
David introduces 6 key S-P-I-C-E-S for building insanely great products and then walks through (in great detail) the importance of each and how you can introduce these spices at your company.
Throughout the book, David keeps things interesting with relevant anecdotes and stories from his impressive career at HP and Apple. Would highly recommend!
