The tarot is supposed to show you your past, present, and future. But can it tell you how to choose between the man in your past and the man in your future? Al is a hard-nosed scientist who spends just about all of his time either at school or hanging out with his hippy aunt. To most people, he seemed boring, or even just a little unusual he loves sharks, deep sea creatures, and teaching at the university where he is getting is doctorate in biology. No one would ever guess that, behind closed doors, he’s sleeping with his incredibly handsome – and incredibly married – adviser, Hugh. Al is content to sail through life working hard on his studies and waiting for his studly boyfriend to finally leave his husband, but when he meets a smart, equally dedicated professor who happens to love reading tarot cards and spiritualism, he starts to doubt his plans – and his boyfriend. Between dealing with his aunt’s eccentricities, his growing feelings for Finn, and his fears about whether or not his boyfriend is as dedicated to their relationship as he is, his plate is already full. When a deck of tarot cards and a dead frilled shark are added to the pile, it creates a giant headache for Al and everyone around him.

The book blurb does a much better job of describing this book than I ever could......_________________________________________________________________
Well, I have to be honest; I read the first 5 pages and i put it down to read something else due to: CHEATING.Yep,cheating: my personal pet peeve. We have Al, who was in a 3 year affair with John, his student advisor. I shook my head. Three years?? I wanted to shake Al, who believed all the lies and the requests John demanded, and accepted his promises of "soon".However, when Al makes a noise, John goes silent and then poor Al wonders if this is "it": that John breaks up with him. Then, Al meets Finn, a tarrot card reader, who gives AL a read, which Al finds troubling. Oh, the angst: should I leave him? After 3 years, John is surely coming around to leaving his partner and their daughter. Finn helps him by offering friendship that keeps Al from worrying about John. I am not going to say anymore for fear of giving away the story. I started reading feeling ticked off at Al and the "cheating aspect" but, by the end, I totally liked AL. This is Peter's skill of turning the story around, for me; to be an entertaining read. The only problem I had was the amount of time spent on AL and John's relationship; rather than with Finn. I have to say I like Peter's style of writing: his sentence structure, his word usage and his imagination. I would recommend this read for anyone wanting an entertaining read, with likable characters and that "HEA", despite the cheating.

In The Cards Peter Styles Books Reviews
This is the story of Al, a graduate student majoring in marine biology of deep sea creatures, who is engaged in an affaire with his advisor, Hugh, who is in a "committed" relationship and has a five year old daughter. Though Hugh continually tells Al that he will leave his partner to be with Al, it's been three years of stolen moments. Al has always been at a disadvantage in the relationship because of Hugh's position and temper.
Al has lived with his aunt since the death of his parents while he was a teen. His aunt believes in the metaphysical arts and often talks him into attending the Samhain festival with her with the lure of free food. It is being held at her favorite metaphysical store and many of her friends are in attendance. Once there she talks him into having a tarot card reading done by the owner's son Finn. He feels an immediate attraction to Finn but doesn't understand how he could when he thinks he is in love with Hugh.
I loved Finn who is also a history professor shows that though he believes in the metaphysical, he is also very grounded and intelligent. He becomes a good friend to constantly is a source of support and encouragement to Al.
This books is filled with many colorful characters and I enjoyed it but not as much as Peter's other works.

Affairs never work out. Hot sex over rides reason. I liked the way Peter explores the subject. Good happy ending
would still be the defining onus of this story. Hugh was self absorbed, egotistical and a cheater. Al was caught up in an affair that was clearly wrong and not going to end the way he dreamed of. In my opinion, the one who was most morally bankrupt was Al's Aunt Lorna. She had an affair with her sister's husband, Al's father yet happily tripped along in life raising All and immersing herself in la la land. The icing on the cake of my dislike for her was her deliberate, nosey and unconscionable invasion of Al's privacy when she hacked into his phone reading his emails then taking the high horse morality road and sent every email from Hugh and All to Hugh's partner! The Gaul of the woman was unbelievable given her past and present behaviors.
There was certainly more involved in this story. Al and Finn's coming together and their HEA, but Aunt Lorna's character overshadowed the importance of the main subjects for me. I guess you can tell I really disliked her.
The story was well written but not one I would read again simply because of my thorough dislike of that woman and HER lack of morality hiding behind a glib devil may care persona.
This is a really good story about a couple of men in a romance and finding themselves. Get this story and you won't be sorry
Fantastic read and an amazing author. Peter, you did a fantastic job with your writing. You are an amazing author and a very dear person I am forever happy to call my friend.
This is a great romance. Al and Hugh seemed like a big mistake from the beginning. Finn comes along and is the friends that Al never knew he needed, just in time. Friends to lives with a little drama along the way. A couple of surprise twists along the way to keep things interesting. Aunt Lorna was a trip but family is family. Keep them coming Peter!
None of the characters were remotely likeable. I've read some of the authors other books and this is by far the worst. When I read a romance the last thing iwant to read about is a cheating couple. Am I supposed to feel sympathetic towards Al? Well, that was a failure. I can't imagine a more stupid character.
